A key is used to connect a rotating machine element to a shaft which prevents relative rotation between the two parts and may enable torque transmissions. For a key to function, the shaft and rotating machine element must have a keyway and a keyseat, which is a slot and pocket in which the key fits. Woodruff keys are semi-circular in shape. The keyway in the shaft is a semi-circular pocket, the mating part, a longitudinal slot.
The simplest way of machining a woodruff keyseat is with a Woodruff Keyseat Milling Cutter from YG-1. We offer these from a wide stock range for next day delivery in HSS 5% cobalt. Buy online today.
