The British Standard Pipe (BSP) is typically used internationally for interconnecting and sealing pipe ends by mating an external (male) with an internal (female) thread and has been adopted as a standard scale used in plumbing fittings, except in the United States and more commonly the oil and gas industry where NPT is the standard used. BSP threads are imperial (inch) sizes and the pitch is measured in TPI (threads per inch).
Due to BSP threads mainly being used in applications where materials like stainless steel, duplex, super duplex, Inconel, hastelloy and waspalloy, thread milling is more widely used as it is a far better cutting tool for machining threads in difficult materials.
