Over the last 10 years, tooling technologies have become much more advanced, along with machinery. We push our tools harder than ever and expect the best performance, surface finish and the tightest tolerances. Often, coolant is overlooked in machining processes, but can actually play a key part in driving tool life, surface finish and sump life.

When selecting your coolant there are 3 main points to consider:

  1. What machine are you operating - Are you on a manual machine/saw or a CNC machine?
  2. What materials are you machining - Are you machining materials that are easily stained, or are you machining materials like Stainless Steel or Heat Resistant Super Alloys?
  3. What is your geographical location - Are you in a soft water or hard water area?

Find out below what ranges of coolant are available and which materials/applications these are used for:

Milky white Water-soluble Coolant

Milky white water-soluble coolants work best in arduous conditions often found in manual machining, manual drills and saws. Milky white water-soluble coolants are often the most cost-effective options because of the low manufacturing costs, long life of the coolant, dilution rates and quality. These are a good all-rounder and will allow you to machine most materials with ease.

Our Cutsol M is the perfect option for manual machining, maintenance, and hobbyist machining. Dilution range are between a 3% and 10% reading on a refractometer.

CUTSOL M

Universal Soluble Metalworking Fluid

Cutsol M is a traditional general purpose, high oil content, low odour, water soluble metal working fluid which forms a stable milky white emulsion when mixed with water. This is manufactured using highly refined paffinic mineral oils.

Cutsol M also incorporates additives, providing improved corrosion protection and bacterial resistance. To provide the highest degree of operator health and safety performance, it is free from Nitrite, Phenol, and Chlorinated additives. Dilution range is between 3% & 10% depending on application. Please consult our technical team to find out more.

Cutsol M is suitable for use on a wide range of applications such as Turning, Milling, Drilling, Sawing and griding of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Semi-Synthetic Coolant

Semi synthetic coolants are the most popular option for anyone seeking the best tool life, improved surface finish and maximum sump life. In the semi synthetic range, you will find more options to suit the materials you machine or your geographical location.

Semi synthetic high-performance coolants offer improved performance, exceptional surface finish and sump life of up to 12 months if maintained properly.

These coolants feature special additives to keep the growth of bacteria to a minimum and eliminate bad odours which are often found in poorly maintained coolants. Dilution rates are usually between 4% and 12% depending on materials and product range. Below I have listed our main semi synthetic coolants.

Refractometer

It is paramount to ensure your coolant is diluted to the correct working range. This is for the safety of the operator and to ensure you get the best out of your coolants.

A refractometer is a portable handheld instrument used to measure the concentration levels of your coolant. You would take a sample from the machine by using a pipette and placing onto the lens/sample area. Once the daylight plate is closed you will look through the eye piece to see a scale.

By reading the line on the scale it will tell you what percentage your coolant is diluted to. If your coolant is too strong, please add water to dilute back to the correct level and if your coolant is too weak you will need to add more metal working fluid.
