Thread turning on a lathe typically uses single point threading inserts. Threading inserts usually have 3 cutting edges and can be indexed after each use. Threading inserts are available in full form (whereby the insert 'tops the thread off' for cut a full form thread) or in partial profile (where the thread isn't topped off and one insert can cut a wide range of thread forms). The thread is machined by taking several passes until the full size of the thread is turned. Inserts are supplied in 'inscribed circle size' such as 06NR/ER, 11NR/ER, 16NR/ER, 22NR/ER, 27NR/ER, the number designating the size of the inscribed circle (e.g. 16 = 16mm), E for external, N for internal, R for right hand and L for left hand.
Cutwel offers single point threading tools for lathe screw cutting from Korloy and Vargus (Vardex). We offer left and right hand threading inserts, internal and external in metric, UN, Whitworth, BSPT, ACME, Stub ACME, Trapezoidal, NPT, NPTF and partial profile. Threading inserts are available fully ground for highest accuracy or moulded (chipbreaker style) for economy threading. Korloy threading inserts are interchangeable with all other manufacturers holders except Sandvik.
Please contact us if you cannot find the threading insert you require as we often have access to a wider range of threading inserts than we list online or buy online today.
