Introduction to our new tool regrinding service
We are delighted to announce our new tool regrinding service at Cutwel. Regrinding is a process that helps revive old or worn tools through re-sharpening them and increasing their tool life. Read the article further to find out more behind what regrinding involves, the benefits and how to proceed with an enquiry.
What is tool regrinding?
Tool regrinding is a process that helps cutting tools last longer and are a cheaper alternative to buying brand new tools. This helps with tool life as well as keeping costs down. Often, a CNC grinder removed a thin layer of material to restore the cutting edge.
Can you regrind coated tools?
Yes, you can! These will be ground and then recoated – we offer this with TiCN coating.
What tools can be reground?
Our regrind service covers a wide variety of tool types and geometries. These include slot drills, end mills, ball nose cutters and ripper cutters. We also provide regrinds on drills, reamers and routing tools too. Both HSS and carbide round shank tooling can be reconditioned too.
What are the benefits of regrinding tools?
There are many advantages to regrinding tools such as:
✔️Increased Tool Life: Regrinding is an extremely useful process for extending tool life
✔️Restore Performance: Allows older tools to perform at their top level again without having to buy a new tool. Reground tools should be just as effective as a new tool.
✔️Cost Savings: Reconditioning a used tool helps cut costs because more often than not it is cheaper than purchasing a replacement. Regrinding tools cost around 30% less than buying a new tool, reducing costs on buying new tools overall.
✔️Environmentally Friendly: Re-using tools is a great option for the environment as it reduces resources needed and minimises carbon footprint.
✔️Tooling Economy: Most end mills can be reground at least 3 times, saving money in the long run.
