How to choose between Carbide or HSS milling cutters?
We advise people every day on the choosing the right milling cutter so we commonly get asked on whether a HSS or a Carbide tool is better for their application. There is no correct answer because it all comes down to machine capability, material, budget amongst other factors. As a general rule of thumb if you have stable machining conditions along with CNC capabilities then Carbide would be the 1st choice. However HSS should be considered where additional toughness is required for unstable or manual machining, or where cost is a factor.
